Wish me luck

Well, the night isn't over yet, but it certainly doesn't look like I'll be finishing World Without End tonight. But not because I'm not enjoying it! The book is great, but since I'm only at page 620 and there are over 1000 pages total (and because maybe I'm watching Center Stage for the second time this weekend on the Oxygen Channel) I'm gonna say it's not happening.

I have to get up painfully early tomorrow for the conference I'm running for work this week. It only happens twice a year, but I'll be working an average of 15 hours a day tomorrow through Thursday. Wish me luck that everything goes well (and maybe that I'll be so busy running around that I lose the 5 pounds I've gained in the last month stuffing my face with Halloween candy and chocolate chip cookies out of the freezer). I'll be back to post on the 21st!

PS: After I finish this book, I'm officially out of reading material. Can you leave recommendations of what I should read next in the comments?

Don't worry - blog stalking is something I appreciate and do well. I am horrified about Jeff's Bond experience. My thoughts are with him.

Good luck with the conference! You will be great.

As for recommendations, here are a few of my faves as I stare at my bookshelf:

Night by Elie Wiesel, Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol, China Ghosts by Jeff Gammage, Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum, The Assistant by Bernard Malumad, The Last Summer (of You and Me) by Ann Braeshares, Good Grief by Lolly Winston...

Some of these author names may be spelled wrong. I cannot see them too well and am too lazy to get off the couch.

Good night!

I guess any recommendations would depend on what kind of reading mood you are in at the moment but one of the books I have really enjoyed recently was American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld.

For my favorite little friend, I suggest The Little Friend by Donna Tartt.

Good luck!

I'm reading 'The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Society,' and despite all the hype, it's actually as fabulous as I wanted it to be. Also, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was my sweetest, saddest read of the year.

Here are a suggestions, all of which are reviewed on my blog in case you want more info ...

The Poisonwood Bible (Barbara Kingsolver) - one of my all time favorites

The Pages in Between (Erin Einhorn) - fascinating memoir

Imagining Argentina (Lawrence Thornton) - history with a touch of magical realism

The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Laurie R. King) - classic mystery building on Sherlock Holmes

Don't Lets Go To The Dogs Tonight (Alexandra Fuller) - a unique and challenging memoir

The Sparrow (Mary Doria Russell) - sci-fi with a twist

Dracula (Bram Stoker) - never thought I'd be a fan, but I LOVED this one

I look forward to seeing what you decide to read next!

THE LIKENESS. You should totally read The Likeness. And if my friend returns it soon I'll mail it to you (though you'd have to mail it back!). :D
